CARL GET ON HIS BIKE FOR CHARITY CHALLENGE
5 May 2010
TEN years ago Phil Wall sold his house, gave 4000 people £10 each and told them to go forth and multiply it.
The result was a staggering £2 million for HopeHIV, the charity he founded to help AIDS orphans in sub-Saharan Africa.
Among those who took up the gauntlet was Carl Mimmack, director of Accord Lets in Leamington Spa and Birmingham city centre, which specialises in residential lettings.
And now Phil has issued the same challenge to celebrate ten successful years Carl has set himself a new target - to turn his £10 into £1,000 by cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats - 1100 miles - in just 12 days.
"HopeHIV is currently helping 50,000 vulnerable children in 40 communities so every penny I raise is vital," said Carl, who was not helped in his training by harsh weather during the winter months.
The 45-year-old is currently cycling between 40 and 50 miles a week as he prepares to take on 100 miles a day, and tackle hills and mountains the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest twice over.
"My job is about interiors, so this outdoor challenge is a stark contrast, but the hardship I will face is nothing compared to what orphaned children in Africa will go through for their lifetime without help.
"Accord's landlords have been exceptionally supportive and I'm already half way to my target."
Carl's marathon ride begins on May 8.
